Welcome to the Clean Energy Research Laboratory
The multiphase flow and powder reaction engineering laboratory in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at The Ohio State University. led by Professor Liang-Shih Fan, is engaging in teaching and research in both the fundamentals and applications of fluidization and fluid-particle principles, powder technology and multiphase reactor engineering.
In the last 27 years, 30 M.S. and 40 Ph.D. degrees have been awarded from the research conducted in this laboratory and 57 Post-doctoral and visiting professors or scientists have participated or are currently participating in research here.
The success of this laboratory is reflected by the positions now held by past graduates and post-doctoral research associates. Many hold teaching positions in the US and overseas universities and a majority hold positions in well known companies such as Amoco, Texaco, Union Carbide, Du Pont, Exxon/Mobil, Shell and GE.
A total of 290 journal articles have been published by researchers from this lab along with ten edited books and three authored books: Gas-Liquid-Solid Fluidization Engineering (1989), Bubble Wake Dynamics in Liquids and Liquid-Solid Suspensions (1990), both published by Butterworths; and Fundamentals of Gas-Solid Flows (1998) published by Cambridge University Press. In addition, one monograph on sulfur control in fluidized bed combustors, and 19 book chapters and journal reviews were also published.
